Early this spring 2015 we got home from Arizona and had a great idea to get some pottery supplies. I saw an add on Craigslist with someone selling a whole pottery studio including a wheel and kiln. I had spent some time in our winter months down at the Mud slingers in Goldfield working on a pottery wheel this was my first time on a wheel in almost 40 years ...kind of like riding a bike LOL
We headed to Oyama BC to have a look at this pottery equipment and ended up coming home with all of it. Here maybe this Video below will help fill you in on the rest.
Some of the first pieces where a little wobbly but we found a style and some designs we liked. I started doing most of the wheel work first but later Ron got working on the wheel and mastered it in no time. So now I am just the painter and Ron is the pottery and Kiln man.
"The Potter and the Painter"
With doing just the painting I can really concentrate on more detail on the painting end.
We decided to do "The Mane Event" in October in Chilliwack.
We had lots of work to do to get ready.
Ron made some really cool rustic log shelves for out booth. (Pictured below)
Time to open
Three 12 hour days with over 3000 visitors a day. We were hoping to be busy! And guess what we were. Not only did we do very well but had lots of custom orders for christmas presents so we will have to get to work as soon as we get home.
Once Ron got all the pottery side of our orders done he started building a show studio to display our work in.
It was already November so we had to race the weather before we had snow fall.
With in a couple weeks the cabin was up waiting for the tin roof.
We had one snow fall before the tin roof arrived but that was ok we had traps on the plywood roof.
The window we found at Habitat for Humanity.
I made a sign for the front of the studio
Our sales desk was also from Habitat for Humanity but it did not have a top so Ron and I made tiles.
So we managed to open for business in time for Christmas.
Here is another video on building and opening out studio.
Below are some of the custom platters we did for christmas orders this year.
This is one of our design's I call this one "The War Pony" (Pictures below)
